Description
Microfibres cloths have fibres which are much smaller than the fibres of regular cleaning cloths. Each microfibre is approximately 1/100th the diameter of a human hair. That means that they have a much greater surface area to clean with, allowing them to trap dirt and bacteria in their fibres. In addition, the fibres generate electrostatic forces, known as Vann der Waals forces, which attract and trap dirt, dust and bacteria in their fibres. This gives them antibacterial properties. Regular cleaning fabrics have large round fibres and work by absorption, so they have to rely on cleaning products to dissolve dirt and grease. The problem with large round fibres is that they’re likely to push dirt around rather than trap and collect it. One study found that microfibre cloths reduce bacteria by 99%, while regular cleaning cloths reduce bacteria by only 33%. Microfibres can be used dry for dusting and with water, so you will cut down dramatically on the amount of cleaning product you use. Microfibre cloths last longer and allow you to clean faster than regular cleaning cloths, meaning they will save you both time and money. Wash with boiling hot water and minimal detergent, this will allow the fibres to unfurl and release the dirt trapped in them.
